A 3D printer’s advertised speed is the gantry’s number, not the hotend’s.

Printers are sold on three-digit millimetres per second and three-number build volumes, neither of which compares across machines. This site converts build volume to litres, works out what each hotend’s published flow rate can actually feed, and prices multi-material machines with the changer they are photographed wearing. The widest gap in the catalogue right now is the Bambu Lab X2D: advertised at 1000 mm/s, with a hotend rated to feed about 500 mm/s.

Only 15 of the 49 printers here publish a volumetric flow rate at all. What that means, and how to read it.

Sorted by build volume per dollar by default. Printers that publish no flow rate sort last under the flow sort — unknown is not the same as slow.
